Prevent and reduce neck lines with good posture, stretches, skincare, hydration, diet, sleep, and stress reduction.
1. Improve your posture to prevent neck lines 📏
Daily reminder to tell yourself
Tell yourself to keep your “chest out, chin up and mew”.
Form a mind-to-muscle memory connection
Use your mind to form a muscle memory connection with your spine, back muscles and neck muscles and try to keep it straight.
Strong core
Having a strong core can also help your posture.
Picture yourself from the side
Picture yourself from the side, if you have a long mirror look at yourself from the side and look at your posture, and adjust yourself accordingly. Even if there are no mirrors just picture yourself from the side and you will find yourself changing your posture.
Avoid repeatedly looking down
Just like repeated squinting can cause fore-heard wrinkles, looking down or to the side often, can cause necklines. Try to keep a level look, and have a relaxed facial expression.
One of the most common culprits for this action is your phone. Try minimising using your phone or look at it head-on and only for a few minutes.
A phone stand at home can prevent you from holding your phone and looking down at it.
2. Start the Day with Stretches for Good Posture 🧘
Doing a quick 2-minute stretch after you wake up can help you remember to have a good posture for the rest of the day.
This stretch is called “hand behind back yoga clasp” or “reverse yoga prayers pose”
3. Incorporate neck line fighting skincare🥰
A good skincare routine can help slow down signs of ageing.
Exfoliating, washing, applying an antioxidant serum and moisturising your neck can help reduce wrinkles and reduce the appearance of necklines.
4. Wear protective clothing to reduce exposure 💪
The sun’s ultraviolet rays are the main contributor to premature ageing. Protect your neck from the sun by wearing SPF 30+ sunscreen and wearing a hat that covers your neck.
5. Maintain a healthy body weight ⚖️
Reducing your body fat will cause less neck fat, keep your skin tight and prevent a double chin which can cause necklines to appear.
6. Stay hydrated for a youthful appearance💦
Drinking water can help with salt excretion and prevent water retention in your neck, thus helping to reduce a puffy look.
Being hydrated can help keep your skin moisturised and protected preventing dry skin, and so reduce how visible your necklines are.
Drink 2 – 3 litres of water a day.
7. Adopt a neck line friendly diet 🍲
Avoid salty foods to prevent a puffy face and neck.
Nutrients | Sources |
Beta carotene | Kale, Carrots, Spinach, Mango, Watermelon, Salmon, Butter, Cheddar |
Green tea Polyphenols | Matcha (Green tea) |
Potassium | Potatoes, Beets, Spinach, Kale, Tomatoes, Salmon, Oranges, Bananas, Avocados, Plain Yogurt |
Protein (proline/glycine) | Chicken breast, eggs |
Vitamin C | Kale, Brocolli, Strawberries, Blackcurrent, Kiwi, Lemons, Oranges |
Matcha
Matcha can act as a diuretic helping you pee more often and so help with releasing toxins, and sodium which can prevent your face and neck from getting a puffy look.
Potassium can inverse the effects of sodium. Protein (proline/glycine) and vitamin C are needed for collagen synthesis, helping minimise sagging skin and keeping skin firm.
8. Get plenty of sleep 🛌
Sleeping 8 hours a night can make sure you aren’t sleep-deprived and wake up with fine lines and wrinkles.
9. Manage stress to avoid neck line formation 💆♀️
Stress will cause your skin and hair to prematurely age, this will cause wrinkles and cause necklines to appear.
To destress read a book, do yoga, meditate or practice mindfulness daily.
You can also take ashwagandha which is a herbal supplement that acts as an adaptogen, meaning it can help decrease stress levels.
